So – Why Sun and Co, full stop?
I have such warm memories of my first stay at Sun and Co in Jávea, Spain, almost two years ago. It was my first ever coliving experience, which really exceeded my expectations and set the bar for every other coliving space that I attended thereafter.
Sun and Co is such a brilliant coliving space, one of my favourites that I’d recommend to anyone. It’s somewhere that’s great to go at any time of the year (it’s open from September to June, then runs as a backpacker’s hostel in the summer). Its location in Jávea (also known by its Valencian name of Xàbia), in the province of Alicante, Valencia, Spain, is a perfect place for the adventurous remote worker to spend a few weeks soaking up a new culture.
Going to Sun and Co was my first time visiting Spain in years, and it sparked my love of the country that I have visited multiple times in two years now. I have even started learning Spanish again, a long time after I last studied it in secondary school!
I will finally be returning to Jávea and Sun and Co this winter, and I want to tell you all about why I think you should be there too!
5 Reasons to come to Sun and Co this winter

1. Sun and Co is one of the best coliving spaces
Founded in 2015, Sun and Co is one of the world’s oldest coliving spaces – excitingly, it’s turning 10 in 2025! It’s won some Coliving Awards and is loved by many people from around the world.
I can’t praise enough the wonderful accommodation in this beautiful house, which is an interesting blend of rustic and modern. It has a range of room options from four-bed dorms to private bedrooms, and spacious bathrooms. Everything you need to feel at home is provided, from washing machines to a large kitchen and several common areas.
Wifi is strong throughout the house, and there are lots of spots to sit and get your work done, including rooms dedicated to taking video calls. There is also a quiet zone where no one is allowed to make noise, which is ideal whenever you need somewhere to retreat and totally focus with fewer distractions. And if you ever feel the need to work in a different environment, then you can walk just a few minutes down the road to Sun and Co’s well-equipped coworking space, which has additional Skype booths, monitors and a standing desk.
Sun and Co isn’t just an accommodation – it’s a community. You see the hosts in person every day and they really take great care in ensuring that every guest can become part of a real community of people who want to cowork, network, work on their businesses and careers together, eat together, and let their hair down doing various social activities. I love the structure that Sun and Co provides by having weekly family meetings where colivers can get together and co-create the activities that will be scheduled for the week, both professional and leisure activities, organising outings and sharing skills.
Check out the evidence in their Instagram and Facebook pages, where they regularly post updates about what they’re up to and the week’s upcoming schedule. This is definitely a coliving space you can come to and never be bored or stuck for things to do and people to hang out with if you want to!
2. Mild and Lovely Winter Weather
If you’re like me and looking to escape the harsh cold of the UK or other Northern European countries during the Northern Hemisphere winter, then Jávea is an ideal spot. From January through to March, temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C. As the name “Sun & Co” suggests, you will likely still experience many sunny days as Javea is lucky enough to have 325 days of sunshine a year – goodbye, overcast weather! It’s not likely to be boiling hot in the winter, but it’s a pleasant weather that is ideal for going out and about the town, on leisurely walks on the beach, on daily runs, and hiking in the nearby Montgó Natural Park.
What’s more – Jávea is often cited as having one of the healthiest microclimates in the world, which might help reduce symptoms in people suffering from asthma and allergies.
Some people would also find this moderate climate more comfortable and preferable to hot tropical regions in other parts of the world where you can’t stop sweating (eg. Canary Islands, Southeast Asia, Africa).

3. Low Tourist Season = Fewer Crowds and Lower Costs
The tranquil town of Jávea is less crowded during the winter months, which means that many of the tourist attractions, restaurants and beaches are less crowded. Therefore, you will likely get more availability to enter these places and the space to enjoy them to the fullest. Especially if it’s your first time coming here, it could be perfect to try it whilst it’s not overcrowded
The benefits of being in Jávea at this less busy time also means there is some more availability to stay in Sun and Co coliving space. Last time I went, I was able to book a space in a dorm here just one week in advance. The dorm was pleasant and fairly spacious enough, and I enjoyed having some late-night chit-chat with my roommates like we were at a sleepover, haha.
This time though, I decided that I would prefer to stay in a private room by myself – I’m an introvert and I just value getting my own space sometimes, even if it does cost a little more. I was able to book a private single room one month in advance thanks to receiving a notification from CoWaiting, a useful website where you can sign up for instant emails about cancellations at popular coliving spaces around the world.
Oh, and not to mention, the cost of booking Sun & Co is considerably lower from December to February compared to the rest of the year, helping to make your stay more affordable. Can’t complain about that!
4. Close to other Popular Destinations
Jávea is in close proximity to other popular destinations in the region, such as Denia, Altea, Valencia, and Alicante, which are all just a short drive, train or bus ride away. This makes Jávea a great convenient base in which to explore this region on a variety of fun day and weekend trips with your new coliving buddies. You can even spot the popular island of Ibiza across the water from Jávea, which you can also travel to by ferry via the nearby town of Denia (though please note that it’s definitely not peak time for partying in Ibiza – you have that in the summer!)

5. A Digital Nomad Haven
As we’ve established, Sun and Co is a sanctuary for digital nomads and remote entrepreneurs, providing an ideal environment for them to meet, network and make friends. The town of Jávea itself is also a popular destination for digital nomads, with strong internet connectivity, plenty of laptop-friendly cafes, string infrastructure, and regular expat meetups and online groups.
Even if you decide for some reason not to stay at Sun and Co, you’ll still get a lot out of spending your workation in Jávea. Sun and Co also offers the option of their Community Pass, for people who want to stay in a separate accommodation and still have access to the Sun and Co community. I even met one couple that frequently goes to Sun and Co and makes use of the Community Pass while they stay in their campervan nearby, so that’s an option too!
